Privacy policy

SNIP.DO is operated by Raycasters Technologies Inc. (“we”, “us”), based in New Brunswick, Canada. This policy explains what happens to your images and what other data the site handles. In short: we don't keep your images, we don't use cookies, and we don't sell or share your data.

The images you upload

  • When you pick an image, your browser sends it over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our API gateway at www.raycasters.com, which passes it on to our background removal server. The file name, the resolution you chose and the background color, if you set one, are sent with it.
  • The gateway stores the upload in a temporary file while it handles your request, and very large photos are scaled down into a second temporary file. Both are deleted when the request ends.
  • The processing server holds the image in memory while it removes the background. Larger uploads may be buffered in a temporary file for the length of the request.
  • The finished PNG is sent straight back to your browser. Neither the gateway nor the processing server saves your image or the result, and neither writes image content to its logs.
  • In your browser, the result stays in memory until you clear it, upload another image or close the page.

Request logs

Our API gateway and our processing server each write one log line for every request. A line records:

  • Your IP address.
  • The date and time of the request and how long it took.
  • The site the request came from (its origin or referring page) and the address requested.
  • The size of the uploaded file, its dimensions in pixels and the size of the result.
  • The outcome: whether the background was removed or the request failed, was rate limited or had to wait in the queue.

Why we keep logs and for how long

These logs never contain your image, the result or its content. We use them for security, to detect abuse and enforce rate limits, to troubleshoot errors and to plan how much processing capacity the service needs.

Request logs are kept for 14 days and then deleted automatically. They are not publicly accessible.

When the service is overloaded, an automatic alert email goes to our operations team. It can include the IP addresses that sent the most requests during the incident, so we can tell real demand from abuse. These emails are used only internally.

Like most websites, our web hosting also keeps standard access logs with your IP address, the date and time, the address requested, the referring page, the response status and your browser's user agent (its name and version). They are rotated and deleted on our hosting provider's standard schedule.

Analytics

We count visits with Umami, an open-source analytics tool that we host ourselves at www.raydelto.net. Umami uses no cookies and does not store your IP address. It records:

  • The pages you visit and the site that referred you.
  • Your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language.
  • Your approximate location (country, region and city), worked out from your IP address at the time of the visit.
  • Three events: an image was uploaded, a result arrived (both with the resolution you chose), and a result was downloaded (with a transparent or a colored background). The events never include the image, the result or the file name.

Cookies and local storage

SNIP.DO sets no cookies. If you switch between the light and dark theme, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage so the site remembers it. It stays on your device and is never sent to us.

Sharing your data

We don't sell your data, and we don't use advertising or social media trackers. The data described here is handled only by us and by the providers that host our servers on our behalf. Your data may be processed outside the country where you live.

We may disclose information when the law requires us to.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you and to have it corrected or deleted. Because we don't keep images or accounts, the only personal data we may hold is your IP address and the other request details in our logs, for up to 14 days, and your browser details in our hosting access logs. To make a request, email us with the approximate date and time of your visit so we can find the entries.

Changes to this policy

If we change how SNIP.DO handles data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
